Etienne Dufresne makes music to sing what he doesn’t say. Etienne Dufresne is the son of a dad who loves cats and a mom who prefers cats. Etienne Dufresne is doing the best he can.
The Montreal-based artist gets started in 2020 with Sainte-Colère, a first EP published via Chivi Chivi. Nominated in the Indie-rock EP category at the 2020 GAMIQ, it’s quickly followed in 2021 with a first album, Excalibur. Produced by Félix Petit (Hubert Lenoir, Les Louanges, Laurence-Anne), the LP reveals an intrepid artist to the public, ready to say what he has to say and do what he wants to do.
In 2022, Etienne Dufresne is nominated to the Félix-Leclerc prize and the GAMIQ Breakthrough Artist of the Year, also adding a participation in the Chansonneurs de Petite-Vallée program to his resume. In the same year, he opens for Eddy de Pretto and launches a noteworthy collaboration with Ariane Roy, “JE RESPIRE”.
Etienne makes his return in May 2023 with the double single “Canal Évasion/Bébé”. On October 17th, he publishes the single “Dans ma tête”, which announces the upcoming release of his second album, Etienne Dufresne fait des efforts, due on January 26th, 2024. Produced by Alexandre Martel (Hubert Lenoir, Lou-Adriane Cassidy, Thierry Larose, LUMIÈRE…), the folk and pop LP uncovers an artist truer to himself than ever.
